Yoane Wissa scored twice off the bench as Newcastle United came from behind to beat Valencia 2-1 at the Mestalla, handing head coach Matthias Jaissle victory in his first pre-season friendly in charge.
How Wissa turned the game around
Filip Ugrinic put Valencia ahead with a curling effort before the hosts were reduced to ten men when captain Jose Gaya was sent off for a bad tackle on Anthony Elanga, who was taken off on a stretcher – though the club are hopeful the winger only bruised his shin.
Wissa levelled with a calm close-range finish and then turned in the winner after new signing Bazoumana Toure unselfishly squared the ball across goal.
It capped an encouraging night as Jaissle blends fresh faces into a reshaped squad, with £34m arrival Aladji Bamba among those catching the eye during a busy window of Newcastle's summer signings.
"Energetic and repeatedly looked to drive forward," that was the verdict of BBC Sport on midfielder Jacob Ramsey, handed an 8/10 after a lively display in which a clipped pass teed up a goal ruled out for offside.
Newcastle continue their pre-season build-up with Jaissle looking to stamp his identity on the side before the new campaign gets under way.
