William Carvalho cancels Sporting Lisbon contract after fan attack

Is it finally time?

Wayne Farry

He is one of many to do so

William Carvalho has been linked with a move to the Premier League since the very beginning of time. At first it was Manchester United and Arsenal. Then it was Tottenham. Now it’s West Ham. You see where this is going.

But no matter how many times Carvalho was rumoured to be on the verge of a move it simply never happened. He was always nearly there. Always close to agreeing terms; close to a fee being agreed.

Thankfully for us all that saga looks like it may now be at an end after news emerged that Carvalho has rescinded his contract at Sporting Club de Portugal, AKA Sporting Lisbon.

His move to do so follows similar actions by others, who have responded to enormous animosity by fans which saw them being viciously attacked by fans after a disappointing end to the season by, essentially, just leaving the club.

One of those has been goalkeeper and Portugal number Rui Patricio, who has joined Napoli, and it is also expected that manager Jorge Jesus will depart at some point, despite his repeated rejections of a contract from the Middle East.

The midfielder was always going to be linked with a million Premier League sides this summer but with this news it means he actually might move. We’re still not holding our breath though.
