Giggs will appear in Manchester and Salford Magistrates’ Court next Wednesday

The Football Association of Wales has announced that manager Ryan Giggs will not lead the national side during this summer’s European Championships after he was charged with assaulting two women.

In a statement released on Friday afternoon, Greater Manchester Police said that the charges against the former Manchester United winger were related to an incident on November 1 2020.

Shortly after, a statement posted to the Welsh FA’s website explained that Giggs had been replaced as manager by Robert Page for the tournament, with Albert Stuivenberg stepping in as his assistant.

“The Football Association of Wales has noted the decision of The Crown Prosecution Service to proceed with charging Ryan Giggs, the Men’s National Team Manager,” the statement read.

“In light of this decision, the FAW can confirm that Robert Page will assume the role of Cymru Men’s National Team manager for this summer’s EURO 2020 tournament and will be assisted by Albert Stuivenberg.

“An FAW Board meeting will be convened to discuss these developments and its impact on the Association and the National Team.

“The FAW will not be making any further comment at this current time.”
