It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas.
And that means the Ballon d’Or winner, the FIFPro World XI and Puskas Award winner are just weeks away from being named.
Fifa today narrowed down the Puskas contenders to the final three, with the eventual winner being decided on January 9 at a ceremony in Zurich.
And when we clicked in to see the remaining goals, all three of which are pretty stunning, we were reminded of the fact that we’d known nine months ago that Faiz Subri was definitely going to be in the running for the gong.
We don’t keep as up to date with Malaysian football as we perhaps should but stumbled across the spectacular knuckleball free kick for Pulau Pinang in February and immediately committed to writing that this would be up for the Puskas Award.

Subri will be up against a gorgeous acrobatic effort from Marlone of Corinthians while Venezuela’s Daniuska Rodriguez, like Ireland’s Stephanie Roche before her, is the lone woman on the shortlist thanks to her unbelievable footwork in finding space for a shot.
