Wayne Rooney says he’d only return to management for two particular jobs

He has reflected on his managerial career

Rooney has been out of the management game since departing Plymouth Argyle on New Year's Eve in 2024, having been sacked after a poor run of form.

The Pilgrims sat bottom of the league table having won just four matches out of 23, with his exit from Home Park following other spells at Derby County, DC United and Birmingham City.

Although he only moved into retirement in January 2021, he has now spent two years away from the game.

Though now, he has lifted the lid on whether he would consider a return to the game.

Speaking to Virgin Radio, Rooney was asked if he would consider a return to management.

"I doubt it, again I know I’ve done four difficult jobs.

"The only way I’d go back in any capacity would be Everton or Manchester United, but that’s very unlikely."

Then asked which job he'd prefer, Rooney said: "The one that comes first."
