Manchester United fans, Wayne Rooney appears to be off.

United’s much-maligned record goalscorer Wayne Rooney is set to move back to Everton before the end of the week, according to reports.

Football scribe Neil Custis broke the news on Twitter before following up with more details. The transfer means that United’s  record-goalscorer will return to Goodison Park, 13 years after leaving the Blues for Old Trafford.

The report states that Rooney has been withdrawn from the Manchester United squad that’s set to head stateside this weekend for a pre-season tour.

It also stated that there were no offers from the MLS and that the English striker was reluctant to move his family to China in order to pursue a footballing career there.

Everton are set to land the striker on a free transfer, but will reportedly continue to pay his whopping €285,000-a-week contract.

The club are also eyeing up Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud to partner him up front, with Romelu Lukaku looking set to join Chelsea on a €100 million transfer.
