What top footballer wouldn’t be tempted to finish their career in MLS?
The Designated Players are paid handsomely, they get to live in some of the best cities in the world, and can play like past versions of themselves.
For example, 35 year old Robbie Keane was last year’s MVP, Kaka looks like the player he was before he joined Real Madrid in 2009 and Steven Gerrard will undoubtedly roll back the years once he settles in at LA Galaxy.
Wayne Rooney may not need to move to MLS just yet, but the Manchester United captain has admitted that he’d be tempted by a stint stateside.
“I’m obviously concentrating on Manchester United,” Rooney said, during an interview with The Seattle Times.
“When that time comes, [MLS] will be something that I will think about. I’ll sit down with my wife and children and decide if it would be right for me.”
United are in Seattle ahead of their opening pre-season friendly, against Club America, and Rooney’s current contract has another four years to go. By which time the forward will be almost 34.
The perfect time to move to MLS? Who knows, but Robbie Keane will probably still be the league’s MVP in 2019.
