WATCH: Ryan Giggs hits the nail on the head with his comments about England’s midfield

Perhaps an obvious thing to say, but he's spot on

Ryan Giggs was again on punditry duty for England’s final World Cup Qualifier away to Lithuania.

The former Welsh international was also present in ITV’s studio at Wembley last week to see Gareth Southgate’s side confirm their place at next summer’s World Cup with an underwhelming 1-0 victory over Slovenia.

Giggs, much like everyone else covering the game, had made little secret of the fact that England had performed poorly throughout the game against Slovenia – suggesting their play lacked creativity and urgency.

Ahead of kick-off in Vilnius, the former Manchester United star took aim at England’s midfielders, questioning their reluctance to take risks with possession and pass the ball forward.

“It’s just imagination,” he said. “Like Wrighty [Ian Wright] said, pass it forward. When I played midfield, the first thing I thought about was passing forward. Where can I hurt the opposition?

“Is it a little dink forward? Is it play into the centre forward’s feet? That’s my first thought. Is it this England midfield’s thought or is it ‘I better not give the ball away’?”
