WATCH: Confusion over where Reading defender should be taking throw-in from

No-one seemed to notice

Is that the line? Or is it just the shadow.

As always seems to happen on the first Sunday in May, the final Football League games of the season were played in beaming sunlight. This adds the factor of players occasionally being visually impaired by the sun, or the stark contrast between the lush green grass and the sudden emergence of the cold, dark shadow on one side of the pitch. It can cause confusion.

Reading travelled to Cardiff today for a game that would give the hosts the opportunity to secure automatic promotion, and the visitors the chance to ensure that they avoid relegation.

It was a tight battle, with Cardiff launching many a long throw into Reading’s box, but very few clear cut chances created. The highlight of the game came when Reading left-back, Chris Gunter took a throw in from about five metres inside the pitch.

A shadow was cast by the stand on that side, forming a perfectly straight line parallel with the touchline.

Chris Gunter did double check, and if you squint you can see the touchline, but for viewers on TV, he appeared to be taking the throw from well inside the pitch.

The game ended 0-0, with Cardiff finishing the table in 2nd, securing promotion to the Premier League. Reading also survived as a result of Barnsley taking a thrashing from Derby.
