WATCH: Mexico shock Germany with stunning counter-attack goal

That’s one way to start your World Cup campaign

When Mexico were drawn alongside Germany, Sweden and South Korea in their World Cup group, the country’s football fans would have been forgiven for letting out a sigh of consternation.

While the Swedes and South Koreans are certainly beatable, the reigning world champions have been close to immaculate in recent years, illustrated by the fact that Joachim Low’s side won 10 out of 10 in qualifying, scoring 43 and conceding just four.

As such, many had expected Sunday’s Group F opener to be a supremely one-sided affair, with Mexico expected to be mildly competitive at best.

Well, how wrong we were, as Hirving Lozano’s stunning counter attack goal against Germany has shown.

The Mexicans had been dangerous throughout the whole of the first half, with Lozano particularly threatening down the left-wing, and he showed exactly why he is being linked with moves to major European in the 35th minute.

Breaking out after stopping a German attack, Mexico absolutely cut through the German team with – at first – a one-two, before Lozano was set free.

Rather than get a nose bleed, Lozano was as cool as a cucumber, cutting inside and rifling the ball past a hapless Manuel Neuer.

The Mexicans clearly have no fear, nor should they.
