Joey Barton’s needless stamp and pathetic dive almost defies belief as non-league side beat Burnley

Lincoln beat Burnley, and everyone is laughing at Joey...

He’s finally done it. He’s finally reached peak Joey Barton.

The controversial midfielder didn’t cover himself in glory during Burnley’s FA Cup fifth round clash against non-league outfit Lincoln City on Saturday.

Remarkably, Barton tried his best to get an opposition player sent off by cheating twice in the same incident.

While waiting for a free kick to be delivered into the Burnley box, Barton’s stamped on Matt Rhead’s foot. Realising that his foul didn’t faze the striker at all, he decided to kick things up a gear.

He glanced over at Rhead and noticed that his arm was extended as he was given instructions. Seeing a golden opportunity, Barton deliberately ran straight into the arm from behind and went down to the ground in a heap clutching his face.

Barton then tried to convince the referee to book Rhead for the ‘foul,’ but all he got in return for his plea was a lecture from the man in the middle.

However, Lincoln had the last laugh and won the game in the dying minutes thanks to goal from Sean Raggett.

The non-league side are now into the quarter-finals, and one game away from Wembley.

Inevitably, people took the chance to rub salt into the wounds after Barton’s behaviour.
