WATCH: Hector Bellerin destroys Arsenal Fan TV as he reveals what the players really think of them

"How can that be a fan?"

Nooruddean Choudry

Ouch. Harsh but true?

Arsenal Fan TV claim to be the legitimate and definitive voice of supporters of the club. They argue that normal people who spend their hard-earned cash following their team home and away deserve to be heard. That’s a noble sentiment indeed, but many Gooners believe they are something of a self-serving side show. A collection of individuals intent only on increasing their own personal profiles through theatrical and embarrassing performances.

Hector Bellerin, one of the more eloquent and rounded footballers in the modern game, was at the Oxford Union to talk about a myriad of subjects, but was asked specifically what he thought of the most famous/infamous fan channel in English football. What do the players think of this circus that follows them everywhere? How do they feel about the constant criticism and hyperbole that is spoken about their performances?

His response was both refreshingly honest and brutally damning. Speaking in calm, measured tones, the Spaniard wondered what their motives were, and questioned whether their ultimate intent was to support the club at all.

“I think it is so wrong for someone that claims to be a fan, and their success is fed of a failure. So how can that be a fan? I think they are just people hustling, trying to make money their way.”

Oof.
