West Ham and Chelsea fans clashed in ugly scenes at the London Stadium

Disgraceful

Violent clashes between supporters of West Ham and Chelsea marred the EFL Cup meeting between the two sides on Wednesday night.

This was the first match between the two sides at the London Stadium and had already been deemed a high risk fixture by Metropolitan Police.

With Chelsea allocated just under 5,200 tickets for the match, missiles, including stadium seating were thrown by both sets of supporters across a segregated area. Some supporters burst through and clashed along one of the stadium’s walkways before police in riot gear were called in to disperse the trouble.

The trouble can be seen in the videos below.

Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time that there’s been trouble at West ham’s new home since their summer move from Upton Park. During their recent league match with Watford, home supporters were seen fighting with stewards and amongst themselves.

On the pitch, it was the home side that progressed to the quarter finals. Having taken a two goal lead, West Ham managed to withstandd Chelsea’s attempts to stage a comeback, finishing the match with a 2-1 victory.

Slaven Bilic’s side will now face a trip to Manchester United in the next round, after Jose Mourinho’s side beat Manchester City by a Juan Mata goal at Old Trafford.
