WATCH: Alvaro Morata misses absolutely ridiculous open goal for Spain

Kyle Picknell

Alvaro Morata is currently playing like his shoelaces are tied together

It’s every striker’s dream.

A goalkeeper parrying a low shot straight into your feet a few yards out from goal.

All you have to do is take a deep breath, keep your head over the ball, and tuck away the finish.

That is unless you are Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata, who is currently playing with all the confidence of Theresa May checking her post in the morning.

Oh, another MP has resigned.

Oh, Morata has missed in impossible fashion, getting his two legs tangled together like a dizzy, newborn giraffe at a roller disco.

Please do watch, and take note, kids. Head over the ball, side foot, the job’s a good’un.

Not this. Never this.

Spain did manage to overcome a Bosnia side (without the magisterial Miralem Pjanic) thanks to a debut goal from Celta Vigo midfielder Brais Mendez, after he replaced Milan playmaker and former Liverpool underwhelmer Suso in the second half.

Morata’s form, however, continues to worry Chelsea fans, who thanks to the clubs questionable transfer policy, have only the handsome but glacial Olivier Giroud as the only other established option as a central striker.

The alternative for Maurizio Sarri, of course, is to convert Eden Hazard into a false 9, in the same manner he did with his Belgian compatriot Dries Mertens to great success for Napoli.

This could well be the answer, especially if Morata’s confidence dips any lower after this latest blip in form after a £60 million move in the 2017 summer window.

Expect him to begin smoking 40 a day like his manager as a coping mechanism if things continue to get worse.

Which, judging by Marco Asensio’s reaction to his teammate’s miss, is a very real possibility.
