Real Madrid are quickly making ground on their city rivals
La Liga's weekend action was clouded by a tragic episode at Mestalla this weekend, as Mouctar Diakhaby accused Juan Cala of racist abuse, leading to Valencia's players leaving the pitch in protest.
They eventually returned to play, with Diakhaby's blessing, and ended up losing to Cadiz 2-1.
Elsewhere, Atlético Madrid lost at the Sanchez Pizjuan, with Marcos Acuña's bullet header the decisive moment in the game.
Real Madrid were comfortable victors against Elche, as Marco Asensio flicked a shot through Eibar goalkeeper Marko Dmitrović's legs to open the scoring before star man Karim Benzema doubling their lead in the 73rd minute.
La Liga's title race is now looking much tighter than those in Italy and England, with just three points separating Madrid rivals and Barcelona just one point behind Real Madrid in third place.
