Virgil van Dijk calls out Thierry Henry for ignoring his text

“I actually don’t have his number anymore.”

Liverpool secured their place in the Champions League final for the third time in five years on Tuesday night, beating Villarreal 3-2 in an enthralling encounter at the Estadio de la Ceramica.

But captain on the night Virgil Van Dijk still had one complaint, and it wasn’t about Trent’s defending for Francis Coquelin’s header.

Speaking to American network CBS after the game, the Dutchman asked who was in their studio, to which the interviewer replied: “Jamie Carragher, Thierry Henry and Micah Richards.”

Immediately, Van Dijk took the chance to quiz Henry on why he had supposedly ignored a text message from the defender.

“Titi, I text him but he didn’t text me back,” he joked.

Presenter Kate Abdo then posed the question to Henry, asking why he had not returned the message.

“I actually don’t have his number anymore,” Henry explained.

“I’ll go through someone else to get his number,” the former Arsenal striker then promised.

He went on to clarify why he didn’t have Van Dijk’s number saved, saying that he changed his own number and when transferring his contact book into a new phone, lost it.

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher then piped up.

“Tonight’s been a bit of a lack of respect from Thierry; to Virgil Van Dijk, to CBS not wearing a tie. There’s a little bit of a theme there,” he said.

Henry then quipped back: “He didn’t text the right number,” before burying Carragher with a final roast.

“You’re actually upset because he’s texting me,” he added, leaving Carragher no choice but to laugh.
