Liverpool fans mock Gary Neville for premature celebration of Villarreal goals

Rule one: Don’t post until full time

Gary Neville should have really learnt by now: DON’T POST ABOUT A GAME UNTIL FULL TIME!

On multiple occasions the pundit has been caught out with his now-infamous photo of him sipping from a wine glass when one of Manchester United’s rivals falter.

At one stage it looked as if Neville had every reason to do so, to be fair. With many expecting Liverpool to cruise to the Champions League final against Villarreal, it was anything but that.

Unai Emery’s side gave the Reds food for thought as two first half goals brought them level on aggregate and within 45 minutes of potentially reaching the Champions League final.

Of course to Neville and anyone else associated with United, the idea of Jurgen Klopp’s side winning a historic quadruple would be their worst nightmare come true.

However with the Reds 2-0 down at el Estadio de la Cerámica, Neville posted the video of his wine glass as he enjoyed Villarreal’s inspired comeback.

But as usual, it came to bite him on the back as Liverpool recovered in the second half and scored three second half goals to go through to the final with a 5-2 aggregate win (3-2 on the night).

As social media law dictates, Neville wouldn’t be allowed to get away with this one as people on social media piled in to let him know that Liverpool would be in a major European final.

One user tweeted: “This aged well….”

Formerly of this parish, Kristian aka vonstrenginho, said: “How can he consistently get everything wrong and still be the greatest pundit alive? Sensational.”

Even his Sky Sports colleague Jamie Carragher was keen to pile in on the banter. He tweeted: “The scene at ht in all households across Manchester & the blue side of Merseyside, the fume will be glorious. Just the 10th #ChampionsLeague final for LFC what a club! #VILLIV”

Next time Gary, wait until full time.
