To survive a 30-shot rally is impressive on its own. To do it to break the world number one in a Grand Slam final is superhuman.
Swiss star Stan Wawrinka played a phenomenal point against hot favourite Novak Djokovic to break his opponent's serve, and went on to seal a shock victory in four sets.
It was only the second Grand Slam title of Wawrinka's career, and the 30-year-old had to bring his A-game against the Serb.
Djokovic, who beat Andy Murray in the semi-final, will have to wait for his first French Open title.
Victory sends Wawrinka up to fourth in the world rankings, overtaking Rafael Nadal after the Spaniard's quarter-final exit at Roland Garros, and the big server will surely now be among the favourites for the Wimbledon title.
