Whoever says there are no more heroes has obviously never heard of Terry Dodd.

In fairness, we hadn’t heard of the Horsham FC striker until a clip of him missing an absolute sitter started going viral at the weekend.

It wasn’t the miss itself but rather Dodd’s immediate reaction of stealing a pint from a fan that turned the amateur footballer into an internet sensation.

West Sussex County Times have more information on the match which sheds some light on Dodd’s memorable reaction. For one, he wasn’t really drowning his sorrows as Dodd had scored a hat-trick in their 11-1 win over Hailsham which saw them lift the Southern Combination League Premier Division title.

This feat saw him break a 44-year-old record, by becoming the first Horsham player to score 30 goals in a season. He told the paper after the game that he was surprised at how the clip has taken off online.

“I just never expected it to get how it has. There are two things I am good at, missing open goals and drinking beer.”

He can now add going viral to that list.
