Manchester United will now be playing their European football on Thursdays after slumping to a 3-2 defeat to Wolfsburg.
BT Sport’s coverage of the game featured former Red Devils Paul Scholes, Rio Ferdinand and Michael Owen in the studio.
Knowing it would get a reaction from the panel, host Gary Lineker posed the question, “are Manchester United becoming the new Liverpool?”, based on the fact that they’ve gone from being a Champions League staple to competing in the Europa League.
Ferdinand and Scholes reacted by burying their faces into their hands, while a cheeky grin washed over former Red Michael Owen’s face.
