Lindelof was substituted with 15 minutes left to play at Carrow Road

Ralf Rangnick has said Victor Lindelof “seemed to be okay,” after being taken off in the second half of Manchester United’s game at Norwich on Saturday. United’s interim manager said Lindelof  had been struggling to breathe and had experienced pain in his chest shortly before he was substituted but had since undergone tests which indicated that all appeared fine.

“He had a condition, he can’t even remember what it was but he was struggling to breathe,” Rangnick told Sky Sports after United’s 1-0 win.

“He said he felt pain on his chest but they’ve checked him and done all the tests and everything seems to be okay.

The Swedish defender was seen pointing to his chest with 15 minutes of the game remaining at Carrow Road. United’s medical team were quickly on the scene and it was decided he should play no further part in the game. He walked off the field soon after and was replaced by Eric Bailly.

Harry Maguire also spoke to Sky after the game, confirming Lindelof was in the dressing room when his teammates returned after full-time.

“He felt a little bit of discomfort,” Maguire told Sky Sports after the game. “I don’t really know too much details. You’re probably going to find out more over the next few days.

“He seems fine in there, he just felt a little bit of discomfort and obviously we all wish him well.”

United goalkeeper David De Gea was also asked about the defender, having left his goal to check on him shortly before he was withdrawn.

“I don’t know what’s going on but he was feeling a bit… with his breathing.

“We saw already [Christian] Eriksen and [Sergio] Aguero and sometimes it’s difficult to see a player acting like this. It was better to change and hopefully he’s completely fine.”

He added: “He was having difficult breathing and feeling something strange. The game doesn’t matter, the football. First of all, it’s life, it’s to be safe.”
