She made history this afternoon

Vicki Sparks made history today as she became the first woman to commentate live on a World Cup match on British television as she took control of the mic for Morocco vs Portugal.

Former Arsenal defender and BBC pundit Martin Keown was on co-comms for the Group B match, in which Portugal took an early lead through Cristiano Ronaldo.

Sparks is a seasoned pro, having done plenty of work for the BBC on Radio 5 Live and Final Score and made history today with her biggest commentary gig ever.

She commentated on highlights of Iran’s win over Morocco last week, but this is her first ever live TV commentary gig.

Both British broadcasters for this tournament have hired female pundits for the World Cup, with England legends Alex Scott and Eni Aluko providing excellent insight for the BBC and ITV respectively.
