Vedran Corluka wears his hat again and everyone is making jokes

For one half only

Simon Lloyd

Were it not for that pesky Gabon Kiraly, Vedran Corluka would be a shoe-in for the most stylish of Euro 2016 players.

Thanks to a nasty bang to the head in Croatia’s opener against Turkey, the defender was seen sporting a rather fetching, highly-patriotic swim hat in their second match, against Czech Republic.

Against Spain, the cap returned again, for one night only (well, 45 minutes of it).

Perhaps because people had already had a full match to make jokes about it, the internet was full to the brim with with witty water polo observations about the former Manchester City and Tottenham defender’s unique head gear.

You get the idea.

Having taken a sneaky glance at Twitter during the half-time, Corluka decided enough was enough and returned to the field of play without his hat.

We’d like to think it was a result of seeing that this Twitter account had been created.
