He’s already bagged his 100m gold medal, and on this evidence, it’s hard to imagine anyone other than Usain Bolt winning the 200m final in Rio.
Of course, Bolt isn’t actually in the final just yet, but having won his 200m heat at a canter, it’s unlikely that he’ll have any trouble progressing from his semi-final on Wednesday.
Having exploded out of the blocks, Bolt established a comfortable lead before rounding the bend. As we saw in his 100m heat over the weekend, the Jamaican once again had time to ease up before the line, finishing with a time of 20.28 seconds.

“I hate the mornings so I am happy to have this out the way. It’s a good start and I’m happy,” 29-year-old Bolt told BBC Sport immediately after the heat.
Bolt, the world record holder for the 200m with a time of 19.19, will be joined by two of his countrymen in the semis. Yohann Blake, a silver medal winner at the London Games four years ago, clocked a time of 20.13 seconds while Nickel Ashmeade finished with a time of 20.15.
USA’s Justin Gatlin also qualified from his heat, as did British trio Adam Gemili, Danny Talbot and Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake.
Wednesday’s semi-finals will decide who reaches the final of the 200m, which will take place at around 9:30pm local time on Thursday.
