Unvaccinated players set for quarantine upon arrival at Qatar World Cup

Tournament organisers confirmed all unvaccinated foreign visitors would be required to self-isolate for five days

A number of footballers will be forced into coronavirus quarantine upon arrival at this year’s World Cup, with unvaccinated foreign visitors required to self-isolate for five days in a hotel. As reported by The Telegraph, World Cup organisers confirmed that foreign visitors entering Qatar would need to self-isolate on arrival. It comes after Chelsea revealed that midfield pair N’Golo Kante and Ruben Loftus-Cheek would miss the Blues' pre-season tour to the United States as a result of their "covid vaccination status".

Eagles forced to leave several players at home

Crystal Palace were also forced to leave a number of people at home as they travelled to Singapore and Australia for their pre-season tour, with the players "not meeting the entry requirements" when it was booked. Marc Guehi, Eberechi Eze and Christian Benteke are all absent from the Eagles' tour, however, the club did not not specify if it was because of their covid vaccination status. Instead, the London club confirmed that they were part of a group that also included those "not currently fit". Wilfried Zaha, Michael Olise, James McArthur, Jeffrey Schlupp and Will Hughes were among the other notable absentees from the group. Palace confirmed that the players left behind would be "based in South London for a domestic training and games programme led by assistant manager Osian Roberts". The Eagles recently announced a pre-season friendly against Queens Park Rangers - the day after they play Leeds United in Perth.
