The first game of Euro 2016 is in the bag.

It was by no means a classic, but it still had some entertaining moments as a dogged Romania side frustrated their hosts for most of the game. The day began with the customary overhyped opening ceremony, in which Luka Modric David Guetta serenaded the crowd while people dressed as sweets danced around him. No, seriously. https://twitter.com/JOE_co_uk/status/741341457152376832 https://twitter.com/TwitAj93/status/741344413469814784 https://twitter.com/Jonzid/status/741343679256928256 The game got underway, and both sides seemed up for it at first. Romania nearly took a shock lead from an early corner but Florin Andone's header was straight at France goalkeeper Hugo Lloris. https://twitter.com/hughwizzy/status/741345704094928896 https://twitter.com/ChieflySarcastc/status/741345841982537732 It wasn't a great first half, but France could have gone into the break with the lead. Unfortunately for them, they had the notoriously streaky Olivier Giroud up front. https://twitter.com/Squawka/status/741357952976687104 https://twitter.com/Nick_Pettigrew/status/741366554462420993 https://twitter.com/piersmorgan/status/741357522532065280

So obviously he went and scored the opening goal.

But the lead didn't last long, as former Manchester United defender Patrice Evra gave away a bizarre penalty, which Bogdan Stancu dutifully converted.

As the game dragged on, it became apparent that Paul Pogba was not living up to the hype and he was replaced with 20 minutes remaining.

And the Frenchman allowed himself some joyful tears as he left the pitch.
