Twitter has reportedly won the rights to livestream NFL games

A big step forward

Twitter has made its first foray into the world of broadcasting as it has reportedly won the rights to show NFL games.

The microblogging site is said to have outbid the likes of Facebook, Verizon and Amazon in order to secure the rights, according to Bloomberg.

The deal will allow Twitter users to view Thursday night games live without a television, although it is unclear if this will be limited to just the US or if the deal will allow them to compete with Sky Sports’ current NFL coverage in the UK.

While Thursday nights are generally considered the least desirable slot for NFL action, this could still have a big impact on how other sports – including the Premier League and Champions League – are broadcast in the future.
