Spurs fans react hilariously to news of Tottenham releasing Emmanuel Adebayor from his contract

He's gone...

Tottenham and Emmanuel Adebayor have parted ways by mutual consent.

The 31-year-old had not figured for Spurs this season and was left out of both the club’s Premier League and Europa League squads, despite the paucity of attacking options held by manager Mauricio Pochettino.

“We wish Emmanuel well for the future,” a Tottenham statement said.

Adebayor’s career has stagnated at Spurs since he became the club’s top scorer while on loan from Manchester City in 2011/2012.

The Togolese striker – whose international career also appears to have ended in acrimonious circumstances – has failed to hit those heights again and was not even given a squad number by Pochettino this season, despite the fact that Spurs started the season with Harry Kane as their only recognised striker.

Adebayor is believed to have turned down moves to both West Ham and Aston Villa before the transfer deadline, insisting that a ‘sign from God’ never came, but both sides could now revive their interest now that Adebayor is not tied to a contract.

Spurs fans seemed quite pleased on the internet, though…
