Tottenham Hotspur ‘make De Zerbi decision’ after winless start to season

After a £300m summer spend, Spurs are 20th in the Premier League...

After entrusting new manager Roberto De Zerbi with their biggest-ever spending spree over the summer, Spurs invested more than £300 million in a host of Premier League talent, including Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes and Savio.

Yet despite the huge outlay, Tottenham are now in an even worse position than they were 12 months ago, when Thomas Frank was still in charge.

Although De Zerbi's side finally found the net twice on Saturday, they remain without a Premier League victory this season. And after Fulham secured a draw against Manchester United — just 24 hours after Spurs' 3-2 defeat to Aston Villa — the north London club will spend at least the next three weeks rooted to the bottom of the Premier League.

With Spurs still struggling to build any momentum, pressure is inevitably mounting on De Zerbi.

However, despite the club's disastrous start to the campaign, journalist Graeme Bailey has reported that the Italian's position remains safe.

Taking to X, Bailey revealed: "Tottenham Hotspur have no plans to move away from Roberto De Zerbi, with the club’s hierarchy firmly convinced he is the right man to turn around their disastrous start to the season, sources with knowledge of the situation have confirmed."

De Zerbi now has a full three weeks, over the international break, to get his squad ready to compete - and pull themselves out of trouble when the Premier League returns next month.
