Tottenham Hotspur could try to poach André Gomes from Everton in January

Tottenham Hotspur reportedly want to sign Andre Gomes on a permanent deal this January, after his impressive form on loan at Everton

André Gomes’ excellent form for Everton this season has not gone unnoticed, as rumours linking him with a move to Tottenham Hotspur have returned.

Spurs were linked with the Portuguese midfielder in 2017 but never agreed a deal with Barcelona, and this summer, Everton capitalised on his situation at Barça to bring him to Goodison Park on loan.

After a difficult time at Barcelona, Gomes has found himself a new home at Everton, where he is playing his best football since his first season at Valencia.

But his time at Everton could be cut short, as reports suggest Spurs are planning to try to sign him permanently from his parent club, Barcelona.

Everton boss Marco Silva has said that the team will not let rumours surrounding Gomes’ future affect them. “Why would it affect us?” he said.

“I understand maybe some clubs are linked with him, I don’t know really. But nothing changes in our way, what’s in our mind.”

Silva had said of Gomes earlier this month: “He’s a high-quality player and everything that we can do to sign a player like him I think will be really important for us.”

Speaking on Sky Sports, Gomes himself said he is “really happy at Everton”, but couldn’t predict what decision Barcelona will come to regarding his future.

After broken through at Benfica, Gomes was highly rated from a young age. His time at Valencia was a mixed bag, but it was enough to earn himself a move to Barcelona.

However, at the Camp Nou, Gomes couldn’t seem to settle, and never managed to hit a run of form. But now, having formed a solid partnership with Idrissa Gueye, he looks like his old self again.
