Why Tony McGregor’s so confident his son will knock out Khabib

"Conor is going to box him back to the amateur ranks where he belongs."

Is Tony McGregor willing to put his coinage where his mouth is with this UFC 229 prediction?

We’ve heard Khabib Nurmagomedov’s father’s prediction for UFC 229, so it’s only fair that we hear Tony McGregor out. If nothing else, for the entertainment value.

Conor McGregor’s Dad appeared on the Ariel Helwani MMA Show on ESPN on Monday. After talking about that viral clip of him complaining about the DART ticket machines, he got into the big fight on October 6. Tony isn’t impressed with Nurmagomedov’s quite frankly incredibly impressive 26-0 record. In his eyes, the undefeated Dagestani has no weapons that could cause ‘the Notorious’ problems.

“Excuse me for a moment while I yawn, honestly. This argument bores me. I’ve looked at this every which way. Even up til last night I was looking at Khabib’s fights. He’s slow, he’s sloppy, he’s predictable. There’s nothing in Khabib’s arsenal that Conor fears. Nothing!”

“Conor’s camp is possibly the most awesome camp to date. He’s in peak physical condition. His power is unbelievable. Khabib is too slow. He won’t see this coming. Conor’s power, Conor’s speed, Conor’s precision – Khabib has nothing to counter that.”

Tony’s prediction is unsurprisingly confident. He believes Khabib will be done in one. He feels that the dynamite in his son’s hands will force Khabib to revert back to his grappling-heavy style if he has the audacity to change his tactics for this bout.

“He’s going to be gone in the first round, without a doubt. There’s no way Khabib is going to survive until the second round in this one. He will not be able to stand Conor McGregor’s power. Once Conor cracks his skull, that’s it. Khabib is going to be too slow. And even if he tries to change and tries to be quick, he’s going to fall back to his old ways.”

“To be honest with you, he’s actually an amateur. I don’t know how he got to this level. Really and truly. He’s an amateur fighting amongst amateurs. This Octagon is a different Octagon that he’s ever fought in. When he steps into this Octagon on October 6, he’s stepping in with a highly-tuned professional – not the amateurs that Khabib has faced.”

An amateur? Tell that to former UFC lightweight champion and UFC interim welterweight title challenger Rafael dos Anjos, who has a lopsided loss to Nurmagomedov.
