Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly is keen to buy a number of clubs around Europe and set up a network of feeder sides, following a similar approach to Manchester City.
Boehly is keen to revamp the structure at the club and wants to oversee large-scale change, which includes a focus on developing younger players.
The American and his business partners have been studying the models of other teams and have highlighted improving their scouting and development plans across Europe and beyond.
The Sun have said that the medium to long term plan is for Chelsea to buy stakes in teams around the continent and treat them as ‘feeder clubs’ for the Premier League side.
Chelsea will then use this style to help pluck the best young talent from across the world and their academy to send out on loan to their feeder clubs in order to aid their development.
The move is a similar approach to Man City, whose City Football Group own multiple clubs from around the world.
In the first 100 days of Boehly’s tenure at the two-time European champions, radical changes have been made already. A huge overhaul of staff members and spending £250m on new signings are just the start as the American has bigger and bolder plans.
His most recent big decision was to sack Thomas Tuchel and replace him with Graham Potter, who joined from Brighton and Hove Albion on Thursday.
Boehly has also reportedly held conversations with Paris Saint-Germain’s LuÃs Campos about becoming the club’s new sporting director.
Campos is working as a football advisor for the French side but Boehly – who is acting as Chelsea’s interim sporting director for the time being – is keen to bring him to Stamford Bridge.
