Bathed in the glorious sunshine at Aintree, Tiger Roll’s class told in the end as he produced a spirited performance to win the 2019 Grand National

Tiger Roll proved himself an Aintree legend as he delivered back-to-back Grand Nationals for an ecstatic Gordon Elliot.

With Davy Russell on board, Tiger Roll became the first horse since Red Rum to claim consecutive victories in the world’s most testing horse race and just like last year, he left it late to edge himself into the lead but from there, he wasn’t going to give it up.

Fresh from his win in Cheltenham’s Cross Country Chase, Tiger Roll was heavily backed into 7/2 ahead of Saturday and punters’ confidence in the clear favourite was rewarded with a quite stunning run.

“I can’t believe it,” Russell said in response to his win.

“He’s one hell of a horse. Joe O’Leary has been so good to me throughout my career and Gordon Elliott. What can I say?”

Cries of “easy, easy” greeted the arrival of Russell and Tiger Roll in the Winner’s Enclosure as punters celebrated their winnings.

Closing out the top-four were Magic of Light, Rathvinden and Walk in the Mill in an incredible Grand National.
