Chelsea’s shirt sponsor Three suspended their partnership with the Blues on Friday

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has said he would welcome “a message for peace” on the club’s shirts in place of former sponsors Three.

The telecommunications company suspended their partnership with Chelsea following the sanctions imposed against the owner Roman Abramovich.

The Russian oligarch has had all of his UK assets frozen – including Chelsea – with the European champions handed a special license to allow them to continue with “football-related activities.”

Abramovich was also disqualified as a director of the Premier League on Saturday. A statement from the league read: “Following the imposition of sanctions by the UK government, the Premier League Board has disqualified Roman Abramovich as a Director of Chelsea Football Club.

“The board’s decision does not impact on the club’s ability to train and play its fixtures, as set out under the terms of a licence issued by the Government which expires on 31 May 2022.”

Chelsea played their game against Norwich City with the Three sponsorship featuring on the shirt however it will not appear for the foreseeable future, starting with their game against Newcastle United on Sunday.

After his side’s win at Carrow Road on Thursday, Tuchel said that he would like to see the club advertise a message for peace.

“You can always wear a message for peace and it can never be the wrong message,” the German said in his post-match conference.

“Of course maybe the worry is to find enough shirts that we can play with the sanctions! But as long as we have enough shirts and as long as the bus is full of fuel we will arrive and we will be competitive.

“This is what everybody can be sure of and what we demand of ourselves. When it’s a big storm you dig in and you are all together.”

The Chelsea boss also admitted that the situation away from the pitch is impossible for him and the playing staff to ignore.

He added: “It’s always the best way, to carry on winning.

“It’s maybe a bit more difficult because of the noise. Some players will feel uncertainty, some will maybe be a bit frightened, some will be concerned.

“It’s normal and it’s also not only about the players. We have a lot of people in the staff and the club who are also maybe also worried and scared and uncertain.”
