This Mia Hamm doll might be the weirdest football/toy crossover we’ve ever seen

FIFA 16 has broken ground with its incorporation of women’s international teams for the first time, but someone else got there first.

Mia Hamm Soccer, a Nintendo 64 game starring former USA international Hamm, got in on the act back in the 90s.

And now it has emerged that the console game is not the only product to feature the 275-cap international.

A series of Mia Hamm dolls will be displayed at the National Football Museum’s ‘Pitch to Pixel’ exhibition, and they’re unlike anything we have ever seen before.

Launched in time for the Women’s World Cup in 1999, the ‘Teresa’ doll can apparently kick and throw the ball ‘just like Mia’, though we’re not sure the throw-ins seen in the advert below are strictly regulation.

The doll, which emphasises the growing representation of women’s football in popular culture, is one of many creations to feature in the ‘Pitch to Pixel’ exhibition.

Opening at the National Football Museum in October, the exhibition will also include playable versions of a number of console football games including Mia Hamm Soccer on the N64 and Sega Dream Soccer on the Dreamcast, both of which were early adopters of female players.
