Boston locals slam England fans over chant they sang in pub

While The Tartan Army got all the praise

As England prepare to take on Ghana tonight (Tuesday 23 June) in Boston, it appears that the locals aren’t as happy with having the English fans there, as opposed to the Tartan Army who made a good impression during their time in the city.

Fans from different countries have celebrated and shared pints so far throughout the tournament, as on social media, clips of different sets of fans getting along have gone viral.

One such example is the interaction between South Korean fans and those of Mexico in the co-host country.

What the Americans seem to have loved about Scottish fans is the combination of kilts, bagpipes and beer, which have proved a winning combo that contributed to the good relations between the two nations.

How The Tartan Army affected an entire American city

Not only did a Boston local fully embrace the group of Scottish fans who moved in down his street, but the Governor of Massachusetts went so far as to legalise haggis, while the city’s mayor, Michelle Wu, established a sister partnership with Glasgow.

And while The Tartan Army are heading to Florida as their team prepares to face none other than tournament favourites Brazil in their final group C fixture, English fans aren’t having the same relations with the Boston locals.

As English fans were seen in a viral clip singing about Scotland going home, this didn’t go well with the locals in the city.

The chant went: “F**k off Tartan Army, you've had your f**king party, you're going home”.

As they responded to the video, a local wrote on social media: “English are here and f**king the vibes, Scots stick around and fight them with us?”

What is for certain though is that the English fans will drink the city dry during their brief time in Boston, as a bar owner told LBC: “We're going through so much beer, and we have only a decent-sized keg room”.

Now this is hardly news, as England fans downed over 5,000 beers in just one Texas pub, prior to England’s World Cup opener against Croatia.

“We're still going through so much that we had to rent a couple of mobile fridge units that we have out in the back alley so we always have beer rotating through – it's always cold, it's always flowing.”

“It’s been amazing – Scotland’s like the ideal crowd we could have got. Obviously (they are) big boozers, big partiers – but while doing all that, they caused zero problems.”

“I said over the last two weeks of madness… I don’t think we’ve had to kick out a single person. There’s been no scraps, no malice from anyone. Everyone’s here for a good time.”

The impression that Scotland fans left on Boston locals was such that even The Boston Globe, the city’s oldest and largest daily newspaper, took out a full-page advertisement to say farewell.

“For a week, you turned train stations into sing-alongs, Fenway into a football ground, and an ordinary June into something we'll be talking about for years”, the letter read.

Whether the English fans will get such a love letter after tonight’s match is what remains to be seen.
