Jordon Ibe explains why he left Liverpool for Bournemouth

Not a fan of gegenpressing?

By the sounds of things, Jordon Ibe preferred Brendan Rodgers’ style of football to that of current Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.

Ibe was handed his Reds debut by Rodgers in 2013 and apparently made his recent move to Bournemouth in a bid to revisit his former manager’s style of play.

Klopp’s modus operandi throughout his managerial career has been to instil an exhaustive sense of energy, pressure and closing down opponents.

Rodgers’ style, meanwhile, has been based much more on an aesthetically pleasing playing style, a desire to perform beautifully rather than force errors from the opposition.

And after Ibe’s £15m move to Bournemouth last week, he made no secret about which philosophy he prefers.

“Bournemouth is a good club,” Ibe is quoted as saying by the Daily Mirror.

“They play the same football as Brendan Rodgers used to play so I like the style of play and the philosophy the manager has got.

“It is a great opportunity for me to take another step in my career and develop as a player.”

Ibe played more than 40 games for Liverpool last season, having spent part of the previous campaign on loan at Derby, and scored his last Liverpool goal in the final day draw with West Bromwich Albion.
