Alexander Bublik has made a name for himself when it comes to inventive shots and was at put on a show once against despite his defeat to Casper Rud in the second round.

His opponent Rud mishit a high ball in the air, which looked set to be returned with a heavy smash shot by the 24-year-old, however the Kazakhstani caught everyone off guard.

Making a dash towards the net, Bublik then promptly turned his racket around – with the handle facing the opposite way – and made contact.

The contact was so well-executed that he returned an inch-perfect drop shot into the path of Rud. His opponent was able to return the shot, only just, but Bublik won the point with a fierce overhead smash.

What was the outcome of the match?

After winning the point the 24-year-old retuned to his bench with a beaming smile on his face while the crowd in the stands in Miami cheered wildly.

Despite pulling off a moment of magic, it wasn’t enough to spur any hopes of a comeback. Bublik only won one more game throughout the match and crashed out of the tournament, losing 6-3 and 6-2.

A loss didn’t dampen the Kazakhstani’s spirits however at the end of the game and wished his opponent the best of luck as he progressed to the third round.
