We’ve heard of swanning about at work but this is ridiculous…

Swansea City have gone all sports science with the latest addition to their Landore training ground as Garry Monk looks to make the most of his players’ recovery time in between training sessions.

Like most Premier League clubs, the Swans will take part in morning and afternoon sessions and Monk wants his players to rest properly in between those periods.

Cue the snoozeboxes.

Bafetimbi Gomis, Jonjo Shelvey, Gylifi Sigurdsson and co will now be able to catch some quick power naps in the 30 pods.

Real Madrid and Manchester United already have similar systems in place to maximise players’ rest time and Jonny Northeast, Swansea City’s Head of Sports Science and Fitness, is excited by the advancement.

“Pre-season is where the volume of work is at its highest. So it’s important we try and provide the players with as many recovery strategies as we can in order to get the best out of them on the pitch.

“One way is to aid their sleep. Last season we started monitoring their sleep patterns with special digital sleep bands. This is the next step for us.”
