Sunderland boss Sam Allardyce has some stinging words for Rafa Benitez

Bug Sam...

Rafa Benitez is not known to be the most popular of managers.

He has fallen out with fans, players and rival managers at various points in his career, and now it’s the turn of Sam Allardyce to stick the knife into the Real Madrid boss.

Writing in The Sun, the new Sunderland manager has claimed Liverpool’s 2005 Champions League final triumph was “nowt to do with” the Spanish coach.

Benitez’s substitutions in the victory over Milan are widely credited with helping the Reds come back from 3-0 down.

First-half sub Vladimir Smicer scored the first of the Reds’ goals, while Didi Hamann’s half-time introduction is widely accepted to have made a significant difference.

Perhaps Big Sam is just bitter about having lost to Benitez’s team a month earlier thanks to a goal from Igor Biscan.
