According to reports in Spain, Luis Suarez has been told he is not a part of manager Ronald Koeman’s plans.

Koeman has only been Barca manager for five days, replacing Quique Setien who was ousted from the Camp Nou after a humiliating 8-2 Champions League quarter-final loss to Bayern Munich.

Despite only being at the helm for such a short tenure, Koeman is not holding back from revamping the Barcelona squad. And it seems there is no place for Luis Suarez in these new plans.

According to Catalan radio station RAC1, Suarez was today told that he has no future under Koeman.

Reports claim: “Ronald Koeman has communicated this morning to Luis Suarez, by telephone, that he does not have him for next season.

“Luis Suarez had not received any communication from the start of training, and today he received the confirmation that they want him to leave the club despite having a contract in force.”

Getting rid of a contracted player would not be a cheap and easy process.

It was also reported that “Barca will meet in the next few hours with Suarez’ lawyers to settle the contract year, plus another optional one, which he still had at the club.”

Barca’s 8-2 thumping at the hands of Bayern rounded off a disappointing season for the Catalan giants, in which they won no silverware.

They finished five points behind eventual winners Real Madrid in La Liga and were dumped out of the Copa del Rey by Athletic Bilbao way back in February.

Suarez placed fourth in this season’s La Liga goalscoring charts, scoring 16 in 28 appearances. Lionel Messi was the league’s overall top scorer with 25 goals.

Since joining Barcelona in 2014, Suarez has netted 147 times in 191 games. He has won four La Liga titles while at the Camp Nou.
