Steven Gerrard went out of his way for these Liverpool fans in Los Angeles

Nice gesture.

Whether you idolise him or prefer to make overused jokes about him slipping on his arse, there’s plenty of evidence to suggest that Steven Gerrard is a thoroughly sound bloke.

Only a couple of weeks ago, we heard how the former Liverpool skipper had made a generous donation to help a young leukaemia sufferer.

This week, he’s gone out of his way to welcome five Liverpool supporters who decided to watch him in action in Los Angeles.

Ste Traynor, Tommy MacDiarmid, Dean Murphy, James Ahmed and David Patten have been travelling around America and decided to watch Gerrard in action for LA Galaxy in their Major League Soccer encounter with Vancouver Whitecaps on Independence Day.

As highlighted by the Liverpool Echo, they were able to contact Gerrard through a mutual friend to notify him that they’d be in town for the match.

Hearing this, the former Liverpool skipper made arrangements to meet the quintet before they watched him take to the hallowed turf of the StubHub Center. Meeting them ahead of the match, the Anfield hero posed for photographs with them outside the dressing room.

On the field, Gerrard laid on both Galaxy goals in their 2-0 win, including this tidy finish from fellow former Red, Robbie Keane.
