Tottenham have taken a giant leap towards playing in the biggest club stadium in London, with planning permission for their new ground approved by the council.

Spurs were cleared to press ahead with their plans in a meeting which ran into the early hours of Thursday morning.

The stadium is set to be completed by the start of the 2018/19 season and its capacity will be 61,000 – eclipsing that of Arsenal’s Emirates stadium by just over 500.

After the council approved of the plans, they must now be accepted by London Mayor, Boris Johnson.

The stadium will also include facilities such as a a hotel, health centre and a sports centre.
