Sonny Bill Williams shares photo of his blood-sucking detox treatment

Bloody hell

Kevin Beirne

Sonny Bill Williams seems like an interesting bloke.

Not many people would give away their World Cup winners medal, but he did. Even fewer can be considered top rugby players in both union and league, as well boasting an undefeated professional boxing record – but he can.

There must be a lot of stress involved in being so damn talented, as evidenced by the lengths Williams will apparently go to in order to detox and refresh himself.

The practice of drawing out blood using pressure cups – commonly known as hijama – is not thought to carry any medical benefits, but is a therapeutic procedure used in Islam as a way of removing toxins from the body.

The New Zealander is a proud Muslim and those close to him have said before that his faith is a huge part of who he is and why he is so generous to his fans.

While we’ve never really considered bleeding as therapeutic, if it works for Sonny Bill then we might just have to give it a go…
