Ole Gunnar Solskjaer given vote of confidence by Glazer family

The United boss has the 'full confidence' of the board

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has once again been backed by the board after the 48-year-old came in for criticism following two successive home defeats.

A source told ESPN that the United manager has the full confidence of the Glazer family, who along with Ed Woodward, believe that he is well on the way to restoring the club back to the top on both a domestic and European front.

Whilst there is unanimous support from the hierarchy, there are several areas of the fanbase that think quite the opposite. Defeats to West Ham United in the Carabao Cup and Aston Villa in the league in recent days have sparked fresh conversation that the Norwegian may not be up to the task, amid the feeling that results are to often too inconsistent for United to genuinely return to their former glory days

On the other hand though, for all the negative comments, there are still plenty backing their former striker - now manager - with large sways of support still present with his legendary status a contributing factor.

Fans are also pleased to see that Solskjaer is being given time to allow his project to come to fruition, unlike his predecessors, who were all sacked after much shorter stints at the club for failing to keep United at the top.

United now have the chance to avoid making it three home defeats in a row when they host Villarreal in their second Champions League group stage fixture at Old Trafford on Wednesday night - a repeat of the Europa League Final from last season.

Defeat to Young Boys in their opening fixture has left Solskjaer and his side with work to do and a win on Wednesday would go a long way to silencing the critics and strengthening their claim for a place in the knockout stages.
