Monza owner Silvio Berlusconi has named a series of bizarre requirements that players must abide by in order to sign for the club this summer.

This season, Monza will play in the top-flight of Italian football for the first time in their history after they secured promotion through the Serie B play-offs.

Berlusconi has played a huge role in the club’s rise from the lower leagues in Italy since buying the club in 2018 – a year after he sold AC Milan.

The former Italian Prime Minister is now looking to add players to the ranks as Monza look to compete with the biggest clubs in Italy, but only a certain calibre of player will be in mind.

According to Matteo Bonetti, the 85-year-old has demanded that they must match the following criteria:

  • Be Italian
  • No tattoos
  • No earrings
  • No beards
  • Must have a clean hair style ( barbers will be on hand at the club to give out free haircuts if not deemed suitable)

Some of these rules make Monza sound like being back at school. Its worth noting as well Berlusconi realises that this could eliminate bringing in some big names to the club so is willing to to overlook these rules if they are available.

Monza are reportedly interested in bringing Mauro Icardi and Paulo Dybala to the club – although both players would go against Berlusconi’s policy.

The Biancorossi aren’t messing about either and have already signed Matteo Pessina on loan from Atalanta, making him captain of the club immediately.

Pessina played at Monza as a youth prospect before moving to Milan as well as spells at Lecce, Spezia and Hellas Verona before eventually returning to his hometown club.
