A shock Premier League club has emerged as a frontrunner to sign highly experienced defender Mats Hummels, a fresh report can reveal.
Currently a free agent, Hummels left Borussia Dortmund this summer following a successful second spell at the German giants.
Scoring the crucial winner in their Champions League semifinal second-leg versus PSG, Hummels enjoyed a brilliant season and bowed out in the final at Wembley.
Now, Sky Sports Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg has reported that new Brighton & Hove Albion manager Fabian Hurzeler recently called Hummels regarding the club's project and the player's ambitions.
It is understood that the South Coast outfit are 'very open' to signing Hummels, a player with the ability to improve the backline due to such a wealth of experience.
At 35, Hummels has not made his decision whether to continue or end his career yet.
