Aguero was diagnosed with cardiac arrhythmia after complaining of chest pains

Barcelona have confirmed that Sergio Aguero will be out for three months after he fell ill during their game with Alaves last weekend.

Aguero was substituted after suffering chest pains in the game last weekend and after going to hospital, tests confirmed he had been diagnosed with cardiac arrhythmia.

In a statement from Barcelona, they said: “Barça player Kun Agüero has been subjected to a diagnostic and therapeutic process by Dr. Josep Brugada. He is unavailable for selection and, during the next three months, the effectiveness of treatment will be evaluated in order to determine his recovery process.”

Aguero joined Barcelona in the summer on a free transfer from Manchester City where he was the club’s all-time record scorer with a phenomenal record of 260 goals in 390 games.

The 33-year-old had struggled for game time having returned from a calf injury to make his debut for the side during El Clásico – which Barca lost 2-1 at the Nou Camp – where he scored.

Barcelona caretaker coach Sergi Barjuan has confirmed that he has spoken to the Argentine and said that he was “calm about the situation.

“I talked to him and he’s calm. He’s confined to his room but considering the situation he’s calm,” Barjuan said to Sky Sports.

Meanwhile former teammate Raheem Sterling took to Twitter to express his support for Aguero saying: “Stay strong my brother @aguerosergiokun

“We’re all with you. Get well soon.”

Aguero himself also updated fans on the situation, saying: “I am well and in good spirits to face the recovery process. I want to thank you all for so many messages of support and love that make my heart stronger today.”
