Seamus Coleman comes through Everton return unscathed

He put in a meaty tackle in the first half

It’s great to see Seamus Coleman back playing football.

The last time Seamus Coleman was on a pitch prior to Tuesday night, the Republic of Ireland captain was being stretchered off with an oxygen mask strapped to his face.

He spent 10 months on the sideline recovering from that horrific double-leg break. The Everton right back hadn’t kicked a ball in competitive football since March 2017.

During that period, Coleman was sorely missed. Ireland fans wanted their captain back. That horror injury saw him miss the rest of World Cup qualifiers and he could only watch on as Ireland fell outrageously short against Denmark.

As for Toffees supporters, they were anxiously waiting for their starting right back to return. He missed the rest of Everton’s season and watched as Ronald Koeman was given the axe.

On Tuesday night, Coleman made his comeback.

Coleman started for Everton u23s in their dominant 3-0 over Portsmouth in the Premier League Cup.

It was a relatively quiet night for Coleman as he eased himself back into the beautiful game. The good news is he managed to come through 58 minutes unscathed before being subbed off.

While he was on the pitch, he didn’t seem to have any worries over that leg. In the first half, he executed a perfect slide tackle without showing any fear whatsoever. It was an absolutely wonderful sight.

Throughout the rest of the game, Coleman was composed. He made galloping runs, played some decent passes and did some good work at the back.

It’s been a long road back to fitness for the 29-year-old but the hardest work is behind him.

Coleman clearly missed Goodison Park. Goodison Park definitely missed him. Now it’s about making up for lost time…
