Why Savinho chose Spurs this time

Spurs failed with a bid for the winger last summer, when he opted to stay at the Etihad Stadium. His game time then shrank under Pep Guardiola: seven Premier League starts and 821 top-flight minutes, featuring in just 31% of City’s available minutes across all competitions. Savinho joined City from Troyes for £30.8m in 2024 and made 84 appearances in total, scoring seven goals and providing 16 assists.

He arrives after Mateus Fernandes, Sandro Tonali and Jan Paul van Hecke, a trio costing a combined £312m, plus free signings Marcos Senesi, Andrew Robertson and Martin Dubravka. Richarlison’s Spurs future remains one of the open questions of the window.

City also remain in advanced talks to sell Egypt forward Omar Marmoush to Spurs, with sources telling BBC Sport there is a “good chance” that deal is completed before the 1 September transfer deadline.
